Dayton, Ohio—The South Bend Cubs rallied for three runs in the top of the ninth inning and held off a Dayton comeback effort in the bottom of the inning as they defeated the Dragons 5-4 on Thursday night.  The Cubs won two-out-of-three in the series and pulled to within one game of the Dragons with the win.  The Dragons finished the night in second place, two games behind first place West Michigan.  The top two finishers in the division will qualify for post-season play.

Last night was an historical night at Fifth Third Field for the Dayton Dragons.

3 pitchers, Scott Moss, Carlos Machorro and Brian Hunter, combined to throw the first 9 inning no hitter in franchise history. Johnny Cueto threw a 5 inning no hitter, at Wisconsin, in 2006.

Moss pitched the first 6 inning followed by Machorro who pitched 2 innings and Hunter came in to finish it out in the ninth.

Hector Vargas got the scoring started in the second inning when he singled in Cassidy Brown from 3rd base. An inning later Tyler Stephenson knocked in T.J Friedl with a double to right center.

That would all the Dragons would need to win their 29th game of the season and remain in first place in the Midwest Leagues Eastern Division and still have the most wins in the entire minor league system.

The Dragons close out their brief 4 game home stand today at 2:00 pm when JD Busfield (3-2) goes for Bowling Green and Wennington Romero (3-1) goes for the Dragons
