Colin Shepherd and Eddie Pursinger each had 2 hits apiece to lead the Sinclair Tartan Pride to a 3-2 victory over the Macomb Monarchs in the opening game of the NCJAA Region 12 tournament, being held in Sandusky
After a scoreless first four innings the Tartan Pride in the fifth when Sami Mehmed doubled to left and scored on a bunt single by Pursinger and a throwing error on the Macomb pitcher Cam Lenneman and it was 1-0 Sinclair.
Sinclair added another run in the sixth when Eddie Pursinger tripled to center field scoring Alex Jacobs. 2-0 Tartan Pride.
The Tartan Prided added an insurance run in the seventh when Smai Mehmed reached on an error and went to second base. Colin Shepherd sacrificed Mehmed to third.
Malave Bettinger grounded to short and was safe on a throwing error by the shortstop. Mehmed scored and it was 3-0 Sinclair after 7 innings.
Macomb made a game of it scoring twice in the eighth inning off reliever Luke Williamson.
Jack Goonan came in with two outs in the eighth and shut the Monarchs down in the ninth.
Kyle Ruehlman pitched 7 scoreless innings giving up just 3 hits and striking out 6
Sinclair will play Thursday at 12:30 against the winner of the Lansing/Grand Rapids game
