Following a tough 1-2 road trip, the Dayton Dutch Lions (3-3-0) return home to face the reigning USL PDL champion Michigan Bucks (4-1-0) at DOC Stadium.  This is the second meeting of 2017 for these teams, with Dayton earning a 2-1 win back on May 23.

Grand Rapids, Mich.—Dayton starting pitcher Tony Santillan and relievers Andy Cox and Ryan Hendrix combined to scatter nine hits as the Dragons defeated the West Michigan Whitecaps 4-3 on Fridaynight.  With the victory, the Dragons not only pulled to within two games of the first place Whitecaps, but they also gained a game on the South Bend Cubs.  The Dragons (37-23) took a one game lead on the Cubs for the wildcard slot in the Midwest League East Division with 10 games to play in the first half.  The top two teams in the East Division first half standings will earn playoff spots.

Lansing, Mich.—Lansing’s J.B. Woodman collected three hits including two doubles to lead the Lugnuts to an 8-2 victory over the Dayton Dragons on Tuesday night.  The game was the start to a seven-game road trip for the Dragons and the opener to a three-game series in Lansing.

 

The Dragons did not lose any ground to the teams closest to them in the Midwest League East Division playoff race.  First place West Michigan and third place South Bend both lost on Tuesday.  The second place Dragons remain two games out of first and one game ahead of the third place club.  The Dragons have 13 games to play in the first half season.  The top two teams in the East Division first half standings will earn playoff spots.
