Sinclair baseball wins 8th OCCAC Regular Season Title in the last 10 years
Dayton, Ohio – Sinclair’s boys of summer continues to roll with back to back OCCAC regular season baseball title and a record 19 graduates. Sunday night at the University of Dayton Arena, 19 baseball players received their degrees before boarding a bus to clinch the 2018 OCCAC Conference Championship on Monday.
The 38-8 Tartan Pride completed the conference season Monday on the road with a doubleheader sweep of Mercyhurst North East 11-1 & 12-5. Needing just one win to clinch a tie and two wins to for the OCCAC title outright, Sinclair scored 23 runs on 21 hits during the final series to claim the banner with an outstanding conference record of 18-2.
This was the 8th conference title in the last 10 year as the Pride continues to find creative ways to stave off all challengers. This season was no different and the Ohio spring weather decided it was time to take a shot at the defending champs. In a season where the schedule should have been made in pencil, it seemed like Coach Dintaman changed the schedule more than he changed pitchers.
As a tribute to the long hours of practice and weight room, the young men that take the field every day are currently in a 26 game winning streak and setting a new school record. One of the amazing numbers of winning 26 games in a row, they did not lose a single game during the month of April.
Along the way, Sophomore Brandon Henson (SO/OF – Pickerington Central H.S.) set a new school record with 21 career home runs and the ace of the staff Kyle Ruehlman (SO/RHP – Milford H.S.) was perfect in conference play with 6 complete game wins (6-0).
Sinclair will now advance to the NJCAA District tournament in Sandusky at Sports Force Park starting Wednesday the 16th. The winner will continue onto the Division II college world series in Enid, OK.
